Bees for Development helps some of the world’s poorest people to build resilient livelihoods through beekeeping.
Our donation in 2021 was matched 1:1 by a UK nonprofit in a fundraiser for beekeeping training and business development in Ethiopia.
Scientific Beekeeping
Randy Oliver and his staff conduct honey bee research and publish articles in beekeeping journals. Washington State University
Washington State University’s new Honey Bee and Pollinator Research, Extension, and Education Facility at Othello, Wash., USA, offers a new home for development of the world’s best programs to help save the bees. Opening in spring 2020, this new facility is located amid the pollinator-dependent agriculture of central Washington.
Mason Valley Beekeepers
Each year, the Mason Valley Beekeepers sponsor the Nevada State Beekeepers Conference in Yerington, NV. We are pleased to help MV Beekeepers with this annual gathering of notable speakers and informative workshops.
In 2022, the conference is being held Feb 24 - 26 in Yerington, NV.
American Beekeeping Federation
For more than 75 years, the American Beekeeping Federation (ABF) has been working in the interest of all beekeepers, large and small, and those associated with the beekeeping industry to ensure the future of the honey bee.
Today, there are many challenges facing the industry that are endangering the very existence of nature’s most valuable insect. From disease to shrinking habitat to detrimental legislation to new science that is modifying nectar sources in ways we have yet to fully understand, beekeepers rely on the ABF for the education they need to succeed in the business of keeping bees in today’s competitive world.
Bee Friendly Reno
Bee Friendly Reno is an initiative of Reno Food Systems. Participants pledge to eliminate the use of pesticides, leave water out for pollinators and mow less frequently. Yard signs are made from repurposed campaign signs.
"The Bee Friendly Reno Campaign distributed 240 yard signs in 2021 and gave away 100's of pollinator seedlings!! And we had a lot of fun!"
Bees 4 Vets
Beekeeping has been shown to be therapeutic for PTSD and depression as working with thousands of stinging insects necessarily brings your attention into sharp focus in the present.
Bees4Vets instructors teach students how to not only raise and care for the bees, but how to carry the lessons of mindfulness into their daily lives.
The nonprofit Bees4Vets program is open to Veterans and First Responders free of charge. After successful completion of the one year program, students get to keep the bees and equipment.
Pollinator Stewardship Council
"The mission of the Pollinator Stewardship Council, Inc. is to defend managed and native pollinators vital to a sustainable and affordable food supply from the adverse impact of pesticides.
As pollination is required for one-third of the nations food supply, we strive to accomplish our mission by:
- Changing the regulatory process for pesticide risk assessment, labeling, and enforcement.
- Providing advocacy, guidance, and tools to document the detrimental effort of pesticides on pollinators.
- Raising awareness about the adverse impact of pesticides on pollinators critical to the supply of food and the ecosystem."
Bee Informed Partnership
- Provides a public platform for bee health data collection and dissemination nationwide.
- Maintains maps of hive monitors and collected data nationwide.
- Tracks colony losses state-by-state, nation-wide.
- Conducts nation-wide citizen scientist projects, such as the annual Mite-A-Thon.
- Publishes Best Management Practices for Small Scale Beekeepers (funded by USDA).
Pollinator Partnership
Pollinator Partnership’s mission is to promote the health of pollinators, critical to food and ecosystems, through conservation, education, and research.
Signature initiatives include the NAPPC (North American Pollinator Protection Campaign), National Pollinator Week, and the Ecoregional Planting Guides
Nevada Bugs and Butterflies
Nevada Bugs and Butterflies provides hands-on experiences with science and living things to cultivate love of the natural world and local environmental responsibility.
